The Asterisk Project

Sharing is winning.

Asterisk, a Digium sponsored project, is the world’s leading open source PBX or software-based phone system. Think of Asterisk as a community of developers and integrators who are constantly creating phone applications. To compare: If you purchase a traditional phone system, you’re at the mercy of a few developers employed by that company to add whatever features or enhancements your company may need. You’re trapped!

When you buy an Asterisk-based system, you literally have a thousand developers working on features, enhancements, integrations and new products. All of the work from these developers is put back into the open source community…for free.

So, your next question: “Why isn’t my phone system free?” Asterisk is an enormous amount of software placed into the open source environment by many programmers from around the world. In order to make all of that raw software code into a reliable phone system for your business, there is a tremendous amount of integration and testing required.

If you have a qualified IT staff, they could download the Asterisk code and make their own phone system. Many companies have done this. Most companies, however, find that they are better served using IT on other projects. The Intorrent support team saves your company time and money by eliminating this (often times extended) learning curve.
